During their state visit to Vietnam, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, visited the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. Elke Büdenbender went behind the scenes and talked to the artists to gain a deeper understanding of the art of water puppetry and their work.
As part of their visit to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, the first ladies of Vietnam and Germany received special gifts from the theatre. Water puppetry is a traditional art form in Vietnam that dates back to the 11th century. The shows depict scenes from rural life, including landscapes, bamboo trees, and traditional activities like fishing and rice cultivation.
The wives of the Vietnamese and German Presidents posed for a photo with the artists at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. Vietnam and Germany established diplomatic relations in 1975 and elevated their ties to a strategic partnership in 2011. The year 2024 is significant as it leads up to the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2025.
The 19-year-old girl from Dong Nai province is traveling with 10 pieces of luggage, including costumes and gifts for international contestants and friends. Xuan Nghi, a student at Hong Bang International University in Ho Chi Minh City, won the local beauty contest Nét đẹp Thiếu nữ Việt (Vietnamese Women’s Beauty) in December 2022. She has participated in many fashion shows in Vietnam and has been involved in charity activities throughout the country. Miss Teen International 2023 will take place in Cambodia from June 16 to 25. The Vietnamese girl will compete against dozens of other contestants aged 14-19 in the beauty pageant. Last year, Ngo Ngoc Gia Han, a 16-year-old girl from Ho Chi Minh City, was crowned Miss Teen International during the pageant’s grand finale in India on July 30. The idea of a combined ASEAN bid has been floating around since 2011. After much discussion, leaders of ASEAN countries and football officials from the ASEAN Football Federation have agreed to bid for co-hosting the 2034 edition of the tournament.
